Terms & Conditions
These terms are an agreement between you and {{LEGAL_ENTITY_NAME}} (“Travoa”, “we”, “us”). They cover your use of the Travoa app and related services. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal data, and our Refund & Cancellation Policy. When you create an account, the app asks you to confirm that you are 18 or older and that you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy, and it records which versions you accepted. If you don’t agree, don’t use Travoa.
In short: Travoa connects members of the same institution so they can share rides. Drivers are fellow members using their own vehicles, not professional drivers employed by Travoa. Riders pay drivers directly, by UPI or in cash; Travoa never holds fares. Drivers pay Travoa a 5% platform fee. You are responsible for your own conduct, and drivers are responsible for their vehicle and their driving. Be respectful, use your own judgement about safety, and report or block anyone who makes you uncomfortable.
1. What Travoa is
Travoa is a technology platform. It lets verified students and staff of a participating institution offer seats on trips they are already making, and lets other members of the same institution request those seats.
Travoa does not provide transport and does not employ drivers. A ride is an arrangement between the rider and the driver. Travoa is for carpooling, where riders contribute towards the cost of a trip. It is not a taxi or commercial transport service, and drivers must not use it to run one. Riders pay drivers directly; Travoa does not collect or hold fares.
2. Who can use Travoa
To use Travoa you must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- be a current student or staff member of a participating institution, and sign in with an email address on that institution’s domain (personal addresses such as Gmail or Outlook are not accepted);
- be able to enter a binding contract under Indian law;
- not have had a Travoa account suspended. Deleting a suspended account and signing up again does not lift the suspension.
Travoa is available to you only while your institution’s Travoa subscription is active. If your institution pauses or ends it, you can’t request or offer rides until it is active again.
3. Your account
- Give accurate information, and keep it up to date. This includes your name and mobile number.
- Keep one account for yourself only. Don’t share it, sell it, or let anyone else use it.
- You are responsible for everything done through your account. Keep access to your email account secure, because that is how you sign in.
- We, or your institution, may ask you to verify your identity or membership. Your account may be limited until you do.
- When these terms or the Privacy Policy change in a way that matters, the app asks you to accept the new version before you can keep using it.
4. If you drive
By offering a ride, you confirm that at all times:
- You hold a valid driving licence for the vehicle.
- The vehicle is lawfully registered and has at least the insurance required by law. It is roadworthy, and you are entitled to use it.
- The vehicle details in Travoa are accurate: type, make, model, colour, number plate and seats. A number plate can be registered to only one active Travoa account.
- You will obey traffic laws. You will not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, while using a phone unlawfully, or while unfit to drive.
- You will not carry more people than the vehicle is legally allowed to carry. The app lets you offer at most one seat fewer than the vehicle has, and never more than 6.
- You will start a trip only after the rider gives you the correct 4-digit PIN. After 5 wrong PINs the trip can’t be started.
- From the moment you accept a rider until the trip ends, Travoa shares your live location with that rider, including while the app is in the background. This is a core part of the service. See the Privacy Policy.
- You will confirm a payment in the app only after you have actually received it: after counting the cash, or after checking your own UPI app.
Vehicle documents. You can upload photos of your driving licence and your vehicle’s registration certificate (RC). Your institution’s Travoa administrators review them. If they approve them, riders see a “Verified driver” badge on your rides. Your institution may require this approval before you can offer rides. Changing your vehicle’s make, model or number plate sends it back for review. A review checks only that the documents look genuine and match your vehicle details. It is not a background check, and it does not confirm your insurance.
One ride offer at a time. You can have one active ride offer. Publishing a new one ends the previous one, and the app warns you first if riders have booked it, because their bookings are cancelled.
You are solely responsible for your vehicle, your driving, and any fines, tolls, damage or claims that result.
5. If you ride
- Be at the pickup point on time.
- Before you give the driver your start PIN, check that the driver, car and number plate match the app.
- Wear a seat belt, follow the driver’s reasonable instructions, and treat the vehicle with care.
- Pay the fare shown in the app for every completed trip (see section 7). If a trip you took is still unpaid 30 minutes after it ended, you can’t book another ride until you pay for it, unless you reported that the ride didn’t happen.
- You can hold only one booking for any given time. When a driver accepts one of your requests, your other open requests for around the same time (within an hour) are cancelled automatically.
- You are responsible for any damage you cause to the vehicle.
6. Requests, trips and cancellations
- You can request a seat only when your pickup and drop-off are along the driver’s route, in the direction the driver is going, and at least 500 m apart.
- The driver usually has 3 minutes to accept your request. If the ride leaves more than 45 minutes after you request it, the driver can accept until 30 minutes before departure. If the driver doesn’t accept in time, the request lapses and you are not charged.
- A ride offer stops taking requests once it has departed.
- Either person may cancel a ride before the trip starts. Please cancel as early as you can. Travoa doesn’t charge cancellation fees. Once the trip has started (after the PIN), it can’t be cancelled in the app.
- To prevent spam, we limit how many requests you can send. For example, if a driver declines your request, you can’t request that driver again for 24 hours.
- Frequent late cancellations, no-shows or abandoned trips may lead to your account being limited or suspended.
- Travoa does not guarantee that a ride will be available, or that a driver or rider will arrive on time.
7. Fares and paying for a ride
- Fares. Travoa calculates the fare from the straight-line distance between your pickup and drop-off and the number of seats you book. It is currently ₹10 plus ₹6 per km, for each seat. The app shows the fare before you request, and it doesn’t change after the trip. The fare is a contribution towards the cost of the trip.
- How riders pay. Riders pay the driver directly, after the trip, either by UPI to the driver’s own UPI ID or in cash. The app can open your UPI app with the driver’s UPI ID, the amount and a reference (starting “TRV-”) filled in, or show the UPI ID for you to copy. The money goes from your bank account straight to the driver’s. Travoa never receives or holds it, and your UPI app’s and bank’s terms apply to the payment.
- Payment reference. After paying by UPI, you can enter the 12-digit UPI transaction ID (UTR) in the app. It helps the driver find your payment and helps resolve disputes. Travoa does not check UPI payments with any bank.
- Confirming payment. The driver confirms in the app that they received the payment. Only then is the ride marked as paid.
- Paying online through Travoa. Paying a fare online through Razorpay is currently switched off. If we switch it on, the app will show it as a separate option, and we will update these terms before we do.
- Disputes. A disagreement about whether a fare was paid is between the rider and the driver. You can report it to us from the trip in the app, and we will try to help, using the UTR and the records we hold. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
8. Platform fee and driver wallet
- Platform fee. Travoa charges drivers a platform fee on each completed trip. It is currently 5% of the fare. Riders don’t pay Travoa any fee. The app shows drivers what they earn after the fee. We will tell you in the app before we change the fee.
- When the fee is charged. When a driver confirms that a rider paid (in cash or by UPI), the fee for that trip is deducted from the driver’s Travoa wallet. A driver can always confirm a payment, whatever the wallet balance.
- Driver wallet. The wallet records the platform fees you owe and the top-ups you make. It doesn’t hold fares, and it isn’t a bank account. Its balance can go below zero. While it is more than ₹500 below zero (currently), you can’t offer new rides, and riders can’t request your current ride, until you top up.
- Top-ups. You can top up your wallet in the app through Razorpay, currently in amounts from ₹100 to ₹5,000. A top-up is a payment to Travoa that settles or prepays your platform fees. It is added to your wallet as soon as Razorpay confirms it. Razorpay’s terms apply to the payment.
- Refunds. Top-ups and platform fees are refunded only as set out in our Refund & Cancellation Policy, or where the law requires it.
- Closing your account. You can’t delete your account while your wallet balance is below zero (top up first) or above zero (contact us and we will refund the balance).
- Taxes. You are responsible for any taxes on amounts you receive. Where the law requires us to collect tax information from drivers, or to deduct or collect tax, we will do so and tell you in the app.
9. Conduct, messages and ratings
You must not:
- harass, threaten, stalk, discriminate against, or abuse anyone;
- send sexual, hateful, violent or unlawful content;
- use Travoa for any unlawful purpose, or to carry illegal goods;
- impersonate anyone, give false information, or upload someone else’s documents;
- use the contact details, UPI ID or other information of another member for anything other than the ride you share;
- confirm a payment you haven’t received, or claim to have paid when you haven’t;
- leave ratings or comments that are dishonest, or retaliatory, or that reveal someone’s personal information;
- scrape, reverse-engineer, overload, or interfere with the app or its servers, or try to access data you are not permitted to see;
- use Travoa to run a commercial transport business.
A ride’s in-app chat is open while the ride is under way and for 24 hours after it ends. You keep ownership of the messages and comments you post. You give Travoa permission to store them, display them to the relevant people, and use them to operate the service, keep it safe, and enforce these terms.
10. Safety, reporting and blocking
- What we check. Travoa checks that members belong to a participating institution, through their institution email address. Where a driver has uploaded documents, their institution’s administrators review them (section 4). Travoa does not run background checks, check driving records, inspect vehicles, or currently verify mobile numbers. Use your own judgement. You may decline or cancel any ride you’re not comfortable with before it starts.
- Emergencies. In an emergency, call 112. During a trip, both the rider and the driver can reach emergency numbers from the Safety button, and can share the trip’s details (names, vehicle, number plate, route, status and a map link) with anyone they choose through their phone’s share sheet.
- Report. You can report another member from the trip screen, from the trip in Activity, or from the chat. Your institution’s Travoa administrators review reports, and Travoa may also review them. We don’t tell the person you report who reported them. You can also report to us using the details on our Contact page.
- Block. You can block another member from the same places. While they are blocked, you won’t be matched with each other, neither of you can request the other’s ride or message the other, and any pending requests between you are cancelled. You can unblock them in the app at any time.
- We may investigate reports, suspend accounts, and cooperate with your institution and the authorities.
11. Your institution’s role
Your institution decides whether to take part in Travoa. It may appoint administrators who can approve, reject or suspend members, review drivers’ vehicle documents, review reports, and require vehicles to be approved before drivers can offer rides. They can see the information described in our Privacy Policy. Your institution’s own rules may also apply to your use of Travoa. Your institution is not a party to rides and does not provide transport.
If your institution pauses or ends its Travoa subscription, ride offers at the institution end, and rides that haven’t started yet are cancelled. Trips that have already started can still be finished and paid for.
12. Suspension, termination and deletion
- We, or your institution’s administrators, may limit, suspend or close your account if you break these terms. We may also do so if your membership of the institution ends, if your institution stops using Travoa, or if we need to protect other users or comply with the law. Where it’s safe and lawful to do so, we will tell you why.
- While your account is suspended, you can’t request, offer, accept, start or complete rides, send messages or leave ratings. Your ride offers end, and your rides that haven’t started yet are cancelled. A trip you were driving at the time is ended, and the rider still pays you for it as usual. You can still contact us, including to ask for your account to be deleted.
- So that a suspension can’t be avoided by deleting the account and signing up again, we keep a one-way code (a hash) of a suspended account’s email address. See the Privacy Policy.
- You can stop using Travoa and delete your account at any time from Account → Delete account, or by following the steps at travoa.in/delete-account. You can’t delete it while you have an open ride request or a ride that hasn’t finished, a completed ride that hasn’t been paid for, or a driver wallet balance other than zero.
- Sections 7 and 8 (for any amounts already owed), 9, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18 continue to apply after your account ends.
13. Travoa’s rights in the app
The Travoa app, name, logo and content (other than content posted by users) belong to Travoa or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for its intended purpose. Map data is provided by Google, and your use of it is also subject to Google’s terms.
14. Disclaimers
To the extent permitted by law, Travoa is provided “as is” and “as available”. We don’t guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We don’t guarantee that location, maps, fares or travel-time estimates will be accurate. We are not responsible for the conduct of any driver or rider, for the condition of any vehicle, or for payments made between riders and drivers.
15. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Travoa is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss. This includes loss of profits, data or opportunity. Travoa is also not liable for any loss arising from a ride arranged between users.
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim related to Travoa is limited to the greater of:
- the platform fees you paid us in the 6 months before the claim arose; or
- ₹1,000.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under law, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
16. Indemnity
You agree to compensate Travoa for losses and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these terms, from your misuse of Travoa, or from your violation of anyone else’s rights or the law. This includes claims made by other people.
17. Changes to the service or these terms
We may change or discontinue features. We may also update these terms. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and the app will ask you to accept the new version before you can keep using Travoa. If you don’t agree to it, please delete your account.
18. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Before starting any formal proceedings, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue. Subject to that, the courts at {{JURISDICTION_CITY}}, India, have exclusive jurisdiction.
